Renal diets

Many commercial preparations are specially designed to help pets with Chronic Renal Disease. They represent a complete solution at least in the earlier stages of symptomatic renal failure.
They usually have reduced levels of phosphorus, proteins and sodium. They contain quality nutrients such as high quality proteins, ?3 acids, taurine, carnithine…
As a drawback, they are often less palatable than regular diets and should not be used before symptoms have appeared.

Phosphate binders

Mixed with the food they can dramatically decrease blood phosphorus concentrations and therefore spare the kidney and increase your pet lifetime.
They can be used preventatively, before the symptoms appear, alone, or in addition to a renal diet, once the symptoms have become evident.

ACE inhibitors

ACE inhibitors are a class of drug used as first line treatment in cases of hypertension in humans and cardiac failure in dogs.
In the kidney, they help reduce renal hypertension and are useful in dogs and in the later stages of CRF in cats.

Your veterinarian surgeon is the specialist for the diagnosis and the treatment of Chronic Renal Failure.
