Initial lesions

Chronic Renal Failure is defined as an inability of the kidneys to perform their functions. The disease is progressive and its progression is linked to compensatory mechanisms beneficial on the short term and deleterious on the long term. It leads to nephrons losses and ultimately to death.
CRF is one of the most frequent cause of death in cats and dogs.

Initial lesions

The initial lesion causes reduction in nephrons population. They can be either congenital or occur in aging pets. They can be caused by toxic or infectious agents. In most instances they remain unnoticed until CRF has been diagnosed.
